Above all as a follower of Jesus Christ we are to do our best to learn from his example and to be like Him. Paul, in this small passage of scripture gives us one of the best examples of how we can do it. He put others before himself! In essence following the second greatest command of loving your neighbor as yourself. Paul is teaching us in the class “2nd Greatest Command - 101” by explaining to us how we should do it. “...In humility count others more significant than yourself. Let each of you look not only to his own interest, but also to the interest of others…” A friend of mine described it this way. Whenever something you're doing involves someone else. Remember these words “them first”, and think to yourself what can I do to live this out for them. It's a great way to think about it because it could be just one person but it could be multiple people involved in some circumstance you're involved in. I want to leave you with one last thought. We need to work extra hard to live this out when we're by ourselves!
...So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus...
