We live and grow spiritually when we put God’s word into our mind and allow it to control our thoughts and our actions by our submission to what His word says. This is what God wants. He wants our action and our thoughts to revolve around Him. He gives us the gift of choice and free will, but it is his hope that we would seek to live out His will because it is best. Still at the end of the day He wants our heart and that is something only we can give. The reason that we can choose to love God and give him our heart is because He first loved us.
Jesus is the only way to God the Father and eternal life! His truth will guide us on the path. In order to live that out we must do a simple and hard thing. We must follow Him! But it will cost us everything to do it. To truly follow Jesus takes a life of action and dedication to His example and the words he gives us to follow. God basically has the counter market on the phrase, “talk is cheap”. He demands follow through by a life of action responding to what His word says.
Jesus promised that when he left this earth he would send us His Spirit as a helper. He has told us that His Spirit can live in us if we submit to the word he left us. To do this it is a three step process. God blesses us with the option of following it or not. But I will give it to you plain. Here are the steps. First we must hear his word and test it out and see if it is really true. After we find that it is true we will have no choice but to do the second thing because we will have no choice but to believe it. Of course you could choose to ignore the fact that it is true but that is a choice that God blesses you with. Forget not that he wants your heart and he cannot demand that from you. The third thing we have to do is to obey it and do what it says. Let me sum it up for you, use the following three words to direct your response to the word of Jesus. Listen.. Believe.. Do!
Let me suggest a few passages to read on what it takes to follow Jesus and receive His Spirit to help you navigate your way to eternal life with God the Father. Please don’t neglect to read and meditate on everything else that His word has to offer, for in doing so you will not be relying on my mortal mind but have all that God has to offer you. But here are a few of my suggestions to start you thinking and encourage you to take action.
James 1:22-25
…But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing…
Matthew 22:37-40

Philippians 2:3-5

Ephesians 4:29-32

Galatians 5:16-26

But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 1 John 3:4-10

No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. Little children, let no one deceive you. 1 John 3:16-24

James 3:13-18

James 2:8-13

Colossians 3:1-10

Colossians 3:12-17
